Home Workout Essentials: Quarantine Edition

At the beginning of 2020, I made it a mission to take working out more seriously. Not only for my health but to push myself to adopt a more active lifestyle. I had maintained my active routine by going to the gym a few times a week and making conscious choices for my diet.

Fast forward to March and the pandemic that has made itself present throughout the world has drastically changed my routine and I am sure yours as well. Saying goodbye to the gym and having food temptation arrive because of boredom has definitely impacted my routine BUT sticking to your goals in these times is still possible.

Remember, take each day as it comes. It is important to do what feels best for you and try not to feel discouraged if your goals aren’t met each day.

Linked below are a few of my current favourite products and services that have helped me create a routine at home…

FITBIT ACTIVITY TRACKER

Fitbit has several different styles and bands ranging in price so there is a device that can appeal to your needs. The Fitbit has changed the way I view my daily activity level. My favourite features include the step counter, calorie tracker and the various exercise modes that can track a specific workout. While Fitbit is all about the numbers, it does help me with accountability and making sure that I am not sedentary for too long.

CHOCOLATE PROTEIN POWDER

Optimum Nutrition has a plethora of protein powders that make it quite difficult to choose a flavour. I personally have a preference towards chocolate protein powder as it provides that sweet and satisfying flavour and tends to not have that gross artificial aftertaste. Protein powder is very versatile, I have used it in pancakes, mug cakes, smoothies and oatmeal. I am not a huge meat eater and sometimes my diet is seriously lacking in protein. After a workout I really enjoy optimizing my results by utilizing protein powder because of its ease and convenience.

PELOTON APP

I love this app! You do not need a Peloton bike specifically as there are loads of other workouts such as; yoga, running, cardio, meditation, bodyweight exercises, cycling etc. Peloton is currently having a FREE 90 day trial of the app and you have the option of choosing from hundreds of possible workout videos. What I like most about the app is that you can choose the genre of music and specific instructor related to each style of workout. The instructors have high energy, laugh, and create conversation, so it truly makes working out so much more enjoyable.
