We all have those days…
When life gets stressful, it’s necessary to take time to relax and recharge from those busy school, work and life days. While I speak about all the amazing and exciting aspects of makeup on my blog, it’s important for me to discuss how I use makeup as a form of relaxation and self-care.
Here are some of my de-stressing and anxious fighting makeup self-care tips:
Cleaning makeup brushes
As mundane as this sounds, cleaning my makeup brushes is actually pretty soothing and calming. I normally dread the times I have to clean them because it is a time consuming task. However, it is perfect for when I have a million thoughts running through my head and I can zone out. The sound of running water automatically decreases my stress levels and the repeated motions makes it an easy task to complete and feel as though I am being productive.
Testing out creative makeup looks
Don’t judge. We have all done it. At least once a week I take time to experiment with my eyeshadow looks and have some fun. This usually occurs late at night when I have reached boredom or I need to escape from the piling assignments I need to complete.
I normally keep my makeup looks natural with browns, warm toned oranges, soft pinks and maybe some purple but that’s the extent of my creativity. When I feel anxious I often tend to experiment and let my creativity and imagination wonder. More often than not, I end up looking like a rainbow attacked my face with all the bright shadows I used. BUT at least I am somewhat getting my moneys worth out of those expensive makeup palettes right?

Reorganizing my makeup stash
Each morning I *accidentally* snooze my alarm and I end up rushing to get ready in 30 minutes. I try my best to keep my everyday makeup clean and organized. When you are running on a few hours of sleep and are rushing to make yourself look somewhat professional, a messy bathroom is the outcome.
The result…

Time to organize!
Taking the time every week on Sunday to clean and reorganize my makeup allows me to clear my mind, organize my things for the following week and gives me time to plan out my school/work week. Also, organizing my makeup reminds me that I still need to work on my makeup minimalism goals that I set for myself in 2019.
How do you use makeup as self-care? Let me know!
Until next time,
Lauren
I love reorganizing my stash – I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels that is a calming activity. 😀
